Five Prestige Cars That Are Relatively Affordable

Five Prestige Cars That Are Relatively Affordable

Many people would love to own a prestige car but think that it is out of their price range. That is often the case, of course, but you do not need to own a Ferrari to turn heads with your car. A little care and research can give you a prestige car that won’t break the bank. Here is a list of five models that could fit the bill for those looking for something classy but affordable.

The Saab Convertible

Everyone knows that Saab went out of business a few years ago. Sadly, all those architects in black polo necks now have to look elsewhere for their cars. It is worth remembering, though, that the Swedish carmaker did not go under because it made bad cars. It was probably just not big enough to achieve the economies of scale required in today’s market. Nor was the company niche enough to survive as a specialist player and the partnership with General Motors did nothing for the brand. Saab was good at two things though: convertibles and turbos. A Saab turbo convertible is a good choice, therefore and with the company gone you can pick up a decent one from many prestige car dealers for considerably less than the cars are actually worth.

Alfa Romeo Brera

Alfa Romeo has a terrible reputation for reliability and that depresses second-hand car prices significantly. The good news is that Alfa has largely addressed its build-quality issues and recent cars are no less reliable than many other prestige competitors. Mud sticks, though and that is good news for buyers as these cars are significantly undervalued in the second-hand market. You should be able to pick up a good one with reasonable mileage for less than you think. The gorgeous design, sumptuous interior, and throaty engine roar make this one a winner.

Jaguar XJ6

With all the focus on petrol prices, no one likes big cars anymore and the second-hand market is depressed. The XJ6 is a beautiful car inside and out and the engineering has been spot-on for a long time now. The aluminum body means that rust is never an issue and this makes it an attractive proposition for those who want a big saloon and don’t do too many miles.

Mercedes CLK

The CLK is often overlooked in favor of its sportier two-seat siblings such as the SLK. Derided by some as a half-hearted sports coupe more suited to the golf-club car park, the CLK is nevertheless an extremely capable and practical coupe with rock-solid Mercedes engineering. It’s not as cheap as some, but that is made up for by first-class reliability.

BMW 3 Series

In many ways, the little Beemer is the classic entry-level prestige car. That very popular, though, can be your friend. Because there are so many about, the laws of supply and demand mean that prices have come down. Don’t worry about lack of exclusivity — these cars are popular for a reason and even basic models drive like a dream.
